Safe Haven / safe space Helping those with special emotional needs, The project recognizes the special requirements of children with conditions such as Autism and ADHD and aims to develop products, which address these needs. For example in the case of autism the child can be panicked by crowds and excessive noise and might benefit from a dedicated structure that provides a safe haven or virtual space. For example it may be – A protective inflatable bubble that can be easily assembled and stored away Augmented reality helmet Use of sound and light as a means to achieve the required environment or sacred space Of course similar opportunities will exist for adults with Anxiety problems, these will be identified as the project progresses. The final product would be offered for use in the home, school, and hospital environment.

Insight & Impact

Family and friends suffer with some of the emotional stresses I wish to address. I have worked within the product design industry for over 20 years and have also taught it in further education, I am presently working designing for the medical industry. I feel there is a great need to address the problem of anxiety and stress (without having to resort to medication), wether it be a medical condition diagnosed in children with ADHD or adults trying to cope with the day to day challenges in life. This would have a huge impact on a person's life, allowing them to "take time out" to build an environment which suits their individual needs.
